Offroad 4WD Training and Tours is conducting an Introduction to 4WD course in partnership with Scenic Rim Adventure Park at Tamrookum, near Rathdowney.

While this course is suitable for single drivers, our course is also designed to allow couples with different driving skills to participate using one vehicle.

This will be a full-on day of learning about what you and your 4WD can do together, so we plan to kick off at 8:00 am at our training venue.

Courses are subject to numbers. If you enrol in a course and we find that we have insufficient participants to conduct the course we will contact you to determine your next suitable course date.

We will cover the skills that all good 4WD drivers need to learn. Initially, we will be having a chat over a coffee and biscuits about 4WD vehicles, as there are some basic concepts that need to covered so that we ensure everyone’s safety. After that, we will spent the rest of the day learning and practising new skills with our 4WD vehicles. You will soon learn what you and your 4WD vehicle can achieve!

Some of what we will cover:

  • What is a 4 Wheel Drive?
  • Traction, Differentials and Transmission Windup
  • Tyre Pressures
  • The Principles of 4 Wheel Driving
  • Driving in Different Terrains
  • Wheel placement
  • General 4WD Techniques
  • Hill Ascents, Descents
  • Basic Vehicle Recovery
  • Vehicle inspection
  • Travelling with other 4WDs
  • Track assessment

We plan to be finished by around 3:00 pm, so there will be plenty of time for you to drive home after the day’s activities.
